SARAJEVO, July 10 (FENA) - The irresponsible statements of some officials, by which the public is being misled, that at the upcoming NATO summit in Lithuania, the heads of state and government of the Alliance could make a decision on the deployment of NATO military forces in the area of Brčko District, are somewhat surprising, said Denis Hadžović, the Head of the Center for Security Studies (CSS), in a statement to FENA.

"After more than 500 days since the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, this topic will continue to be the main focus of the meeting in Vilnius, but other important topics will also be discussed, which should show that NATO forces are still ready to respond to any challenge on this dynamic and unpredictable international scene," said Hadžović, the day before the start of the summit.

He believes that within the eight items of the planned agenda focused on collective defense, greater readiness of the military forces, strengthening of the eastern border, deterrence and response to nuclear threats and upcoming NATO exercises, Bosnia and Herzegovina will probably be discussed on the sidelines of the meeting within the item of NATO operations and missions.

"It is expected that Alliance officials will continue to stick to their promises that, in light of the Russian invasion, they will remain committed to supporting and providing security guarantees to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia and Moldova, as the most vulnerable countries in the immediate vicinity of NATO members. The very invitation to BiH officials to be officially present at this important event should be viewed in the positive light of NATO's commitment to cooperation and the perspective of BiH's full membership in NATO," Hadžović concluded in a statement to FENA.
