SARAJEVO, January 9 (FENA) - The Republic of Turkey has never interfered with internal relations in BiH. On the contrary, its approach has always been fair towards our country, strongly supporting its clear and previously defined priorities related to EU membership and NATO, reform processes and economic progress, said Bakir Izetbegović, a member of the BiH Presidency, in a statement today given for the internet portal Faktor.ba.

President of the Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, will be visiting Turkey today on a one-day visit to Ankara, where she will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Judging by the announcements of Croatian media, one of the main topics that Kitarović would like to talk about with President Erdogan will be the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Izetbegović emphasized that Turkey is implementing peaceful and stabilizing politics throughout the region.

“If these media allegations are in fact true, that one of the reasons for the visit of the President of Croatia to Turkey is to discuss the amendments in electoral legislation in BiH and the intervention of President Erdogan on this issue, then it is a product of a completely wrong understanding of my friendly relations with President Erdogan and the relations between BiH and Turkey,” said Izetbegović.

He points out that up to date, there have been no interventions by President Erdogan on the internal matters of BiH, and that he expects that it will remain so in the future.

“Based on the relations so far, we can expect Turkey to provide principled support to BiH in line with the positions of the EU Foreign Policy Council, which emphasizes the need to implement the Sejdić-Finci judgment and amend the Election Law in a way that will not contribute to further divisions along ethnic lines,” Izetbegović concluded.
