BANJA LUKA, January 9 (FENA) - Former Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić, President of the Austrian Freedom Party (FPÖ) Heinz-Kristian Strahe, Deputy Mayor of Vienna Johan Gudenus, film director Emir Kusturica, are the recipients of medals awarded by Republika Srpska.
In his address after receiving the medal in Banja Luka today at the marking of the disputed ‘Day of RS’, Nikolić said that "from the bottom of my heart I wish that RS gets its independence and full autonomy ".
“If your independence is the path to unification of RS and Serbia, then I wish that you get your independence. We must not stray away from that path. There will be hundreds of obstacles, but we are only following the will of the people, and their will is clear - Serbia and RS will jointly decide about their common destiny,” said Nikolić.
Speaking about the international community, he said that "it has taken sovereignty, independence and the legal right of RS, by subjugating it to some kind of a common state which is obviously dysfunctional."
“Personally, the most difficult challenge when it comes to RS was the resolution of the UN Security Council on Srebrenica. I knew that, if there is a vote, we will not have much chance. If they had voted what they had planned, then RS would not have stood a chance. Then I decided to do something that was not diplomatic, but it was a desperate move- I asked our mother Russia and its great president Vladimir Putin to veto the resolution on Srebrenica. I managed to lift our spirit, encouraged us... Since then, our lesser friends do not like me, and what kind of a man would I be if those who do not wish well to my people would love me? "Nikolić asked.
