FENA

SARAJEVO, January 11 (FENA) – Given that Bulgaria this year took over the six-month presidency over the European Union, that country will be the honorary guest of the Sarajevo Winter Festival, whose theme this time is “The Other Face of the World”.

“Bulgaria’s tradition in our country, along with the representatives of the Bulgarian ethnic minority, has been equally present since the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, so I am glad that, on behalf of the EU, Bulgaria is the honorary guest of the ‘Sarajevo Winter’," said the festival director Ibrahim Spahić at today’s press conference in Sarajevo.

He recalled that Bulgaria was the first country to officially recognize the independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He added that the opening of the “Sarajevo Winter” would be attended by the highest Bulgarian officials who will be awarded the greatest recognition of the Festival and the International Peace Center – “Freedom”, for everything that Bulgaria has done and is doing in terms of relations with BiH, Europe and the world.

The journalists were also addressed by the Bulgarian Ambassador to BiH Avgustina Tzvetkova, who announced that the “Sarajevo Winter” will be opened by a concert of the Bulgarian Guardian Orchestra, dedicated to the Bulgarian presidency over the European Union, entitled “Meeting of Cultures: from Brass to Jazz”.

“I hope that this concert will represent a holiday of culture and excellent relations between Bulgaria and BiH,” said the Ambassador.

She stressed that the Sofia National Theater was marking today the beginning of Bulgaria’s presidency over the EU Council, and in her opinion, it is in some way symbolic that this press conference is being held today.

In addition to the concert of the Bulgarian Guardian Orchestra, Ms. Tzvetkova announced some other events, such as the week of film, in which three Bulgarian films will be presented, as well as an exhibition of works by Bulgarian painter Svetla Radulova, entitled “Fairy Tale about Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
