SARAJEVO, January 23 (FENA) – The National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which this year celebrates its 130th anniversary, was visited today by BiH Minister of Civil Affairs Adil Osmanović, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to BiH Haldun Koç and Director of TIKA Faruk Alımcı.
The purpose of the visit was, as Mr. Osmanović told the media, to find modalities to involve TIKA in the reconstruction of the museum.
Mr. Osmanović reminded that a reconstruction of the Museum roof will be carried out using the US Ambassador’s Fund and that they expect that TIKA would help with the reconstruction of windows and doors.
“The Museum and its very infrastructure demand investments that the Museum by itself cannot provide. The Ministry of Civil Affairs is focused on paying the Museum employees the salaries that are already very late,” said Mr. Osmanović.
Turkish Ambassador to BiH, Haldun Koç, stressed that the National Museum is of great importance for BiH.
“Everywhere in the world, such rich and important museums serve not only to in the best way preserve what makes history and culture, but also as an authentic source of information for young people,” said the Turkish Ambassador.
He stressed that Turkey will support the Museum and preservation of BiH’s cultural and historical treasures through its agency for cooperation, TIKA.
Also, one of the experts from the National Museum will receive education in similar institutions in Turkey.
The National Museum Director, Mirsad Sijarić, said that much needs to be done regarding the infrastructure of the Museum so that permanent exhibitions could be reintroduced, and that young people need to be hired to fill the vacant job positions.
It is also necessary to reconstruct the building which will take, according to estimates of the FBiH Institute for the Protection of Monuments, about 9 million KM, just for basic construction works.
