SARAJEVO, January 26 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to the Index of Environmental Perofrmance, is ranked at 158th place on the list of 180 countries.
“We are the worst-rated country in Europe, and the next worst-ranked country, Moldova is at 112th place. When it comes to the countries in the region, Slovenia is ranked 34th, Croatia 41th, Montenegro 65th, Macedonia 68th and Serbia at 84th place,” stated the "Eco Action" association.
The "Eco Action" reminds that the Environmental Perofrmance Index is calculated and published every two years by the Universities of Yale and Columbia in cooperation with the World Economic Forum.
“This is also an assessment of the disastrous effect of the work of our authorities, primarily those who are most responsible for the state of the environment in the country,” stated the Eco Action.
The association considers "that the environmental policies in BiH serve exclusively to the interests of financial and political elites, to whom the environment is just a source of income."
“In doing this, they also enjoy the support of international organizations and institutions lobbying for uncontrolled exploitation of resources of our country, while a series of failed projects serve as an alibi to domestic actors for destructive decisions,” it is said in the statement.
