76th anniversary of 'Igman March' marked

SARAJEVO, January 28 (FENA) – Traditional campaign and appropriate program was held yesterday to mark 76th anniversary of “Igman March”, one of the most important operations during National Liberation War (NOB) in World War II.

Ceremony was organized by the Alliance of Antifascists and Veterans of National Liberation War – SABNOR in Sarajevo Canton and it gathered a large number of participants who nurture values of antifascism.

President of the Organizing Committee of "Igman March 2018" Ibrahim Durmo told FENA that interest for this ceremony is growing by the year, and this has become the international ceremony with presence of more than 20.000 participants, antifascists from countries of former Yugoslavia, but also from Austria, Italy, Russian Federation, etc.

Participants of the March laid flowers at memorial on Brezovača and then headed to localities of Mrazište and Veliko Polje, where they also laid flowers at Partisan memorials and Muslim cemeteries and attended a central event at Veliko Polje on Mt. Igman.

Participants were welcomed at Veliko Polje, among others, by former member of Presidency SFRJ from BiH Bogić Bogičević and president of SABNOR BiH Bakir Nakaš, who underlined importance of antifascist values.

Youngest participant of Igman March from 1942 Albin Pibernik from Ljubljana took part in this year’s memorial campaign once again, as well as numerous representatives of antifascist organizations from countries of the region and beyond.
