Dunović refuses to take 'access codes' for Register of veteran protection users

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 29 (FENA) - The Ministry for Issues of Veterans and Disabled Veterans of Defensive-Liberation War organized today a presentation of the Register of beneficiaries of veteran and disability compensations. As noted by Minister Bukvarević, the Register is intended for institutions that could use the data for official purposes. On this occasion, the so-called “access codes for the Register, intended for the President and Vice Presidents of the Federation of BiH, Prime Ministers and Deputy Prime Ministers of the Federation of BiH, as well as cantonal ministers.

The FBiH Vice President Milan Dunović publicly refused to take the codes.

“I believe that neither the Government of the Federation of BiH nor the Ministry for Issues of Veterans has asked for a Register that makes available to the institutions, and only to the institutions, the data on recipients of certain benefits,” Mr. Dunović said on that occasion.

According to him, demobilized fighters, and this is the case for both components (Army of RBiH and HVO, as well as members of the police), expect a register of all fighters, according to the units in which they were engaged in defense of BiH.

“Today, all the fighters have been deceived, because they were presented with a supposed Register of Fighters, which does not state who participated in the defense of BiH, but only names recipients of certain benefits, and, as Minister Bukvarević clumsily said - so we could see which of the fighters’ categories got what from the state. (...) The certificates obtained by demobilized fighters are also a form of compensation, so these data should also be available. (...) Finally, it is about time, Minister Bukvarević, for us to find out if among the certificate beneficiaries there are those who have not spent a single day in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war. (…) Those documents were easily given out to those fake fighters by the SDA and the HDZ, and on this basis, they acquired various benefits not indicated in the present-day Register, such as certificates for redeeming apartments and often buying shares of profitable companies (like BH Telecom). (...) Simply, we all want a Single Register of Fighters, not the Register of beneficiaries of veteran and disability compensations. For this reason, I refuse to take the access codes, because I do not want to participate in misleading the fighters and the general public,” Mr. Dunović said in his statement to the public.
