SARAJEVO, January 30 (FENA) - BiH Presidency Chairman Dragan Čović confirmed that he, Bakir Izetbegović and Mladen Ivanić, will, first jointly as members of the BiH Presidency and then individually, in party capacity, meet tomorrow in Brussels with the President of the European People's Party (EPP), Joseph Daul.
As clarified in the interview for "Dnevni Avaz", the main topic of the discussion will be the changes to the BiH Election Law and the situation in BiH. The Presidency Chairman said that the three of them had an obligation to deliver to the President of the EPP their views on issues related to the Election Law and suggestions how to solve these problems, which he, as he said, had done.
Asked how much the upcoming meeting can bring the HDZ and SDA's views closer when it comes to the Election Law, Mr. Čović says the differences are still big.
“I hope we can find a solution based on a model that we in BiH all agreed without exception, that representatives of one people will not choose the representatives for another people, neither the Presidency members nor the members of the House of Peoples. I still feel that the representatives of SDA and Mr. Izetbegović today want to simply create a status quo in relations in BiH when it comes to electoral legislation, so that on May 10th they could have a visible impact on relations within the Croat voting body, i.e. on the policymaking of the Croat people,” says Mr. Čović.
On the other hand, he believes that talks with representatives of the European and US administration in BiH on the Election Law will lead to some breakthrough.
“For me, the only important clause in all of that is that the Croat people can choose their own representatives and if that condition is acceptable to everyone, then it is easy to find a solution. Any solution that provides such a result is acceptable,” Mr. Čović told Dnevni Avaz.
