SARAJEVO, Januar 31 (FENA) - Efficient and professional public administration is a prerequisite for the improvement of many aspects of BiH society, stressed the participants of the conference on challenges of public administration reform held today in Sarajevo.

Chairman of the BiH Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdić stated that open and transparent public administration, efficient and simple procedures, and trained and professional civil servants were indispensable in order for all processes in BiH to be more efficient.

He added that this would bring the overall economic, social and political life to a quality dynamics and enable Bosnia and Herzegovina to adapt to the EU acquis.

“In that regard, the BiH Council of Ministers has adopted several important documents and public administration reform is just one of the reforms we are implementing, so I can say that the Council of Ministers fulfilled the Reform Agenda in a large percentage,” Mr. Zvizdić said.

The Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark said that this reform was not a new task for Bosnia and Herzegovina, but that it was time to take a serious look at it.

“This reform is a challenge that all six countries in the Western Balkans face and will certainly be addressed in the new EU Strategy for the Western Balkans, to be presented in February. Functional, efficient and non-political public administration is the basis for the well-being of all citizens of the countries of the region and is particularly significant in the process of European integration,” stressed Mr. Wigemark.

Public Administration Reform Coordinator Dragan Ćuzulan stressed that the main challenge in the process of public administration reform was the lack of records and data, and he urged the BiH institutions to submit relevant data during the next monitoring, in order to give the European Commission a clearer picture of the situation.

The conference is organized under the SIGMA (Support for Improvement in Governance and Management) initiative funded primarily by the EU.
