SARAJEVO, February 1 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Igor Crnadak met today with the State Minister for European Affairs of Ireland Helen McEntee in Sarajevo and confirmed the friendly relations of the two countries that need to be further strengthened through economic cooperation, as well as the full support of Ireland on BiH’s path to the European Union.

“I am sincerely glad that we have hosted our guest from the friendly country of Ireland, which has always provided support to Bosnia and Herzegovina in our most important foreign policy goal, which is our European path. The fact is that Ireland was among the first countries to have ratified the Stabilization and Association Agreement between BiH and the European Union, it has supported the enlargement to our region and has kept it high on the list of its priorities,” said Crnadak at a press conference after the meeting.

Crnadak added that the two of them noted that there is a lot of space and capacity for improvement in the economic segment, especially in the mutual trade exchange. The fact that exports from BiH to Ireland for the entire year amount to only 150,000 euros shows how much room is left for progress, especially on our part to do more in this field, underlined Crnadak.

Crnadak added that they dedicated special attention to the European integration of BiH.

“I informed my colleague McEntee about the latest developments in BiH, with the fact that the responses to the European Commission Questionnaire are practically completed and that it is the matter of days when we will finish the last and final technical interventions and the Questionnaire is sent to Brussels. We will do our best to get the support from the major and key countries after completing the Questionnaire in order to get a candidate status as soon as possible and the date for the start of the negotiations,” said Crnadak.

He stressed that Ireland has a very significant experience when it comes to withdrawing of EU funds, the development of entrepreneurship, and that there are good models that Ireland has used and which have led to their strong economic development, which can be applied in our country.

“We also talked about the new EU strategy when it comes to this region and the enlargement process. We have conveyed our position to McEntee that for us, the most important and our key expectation is to confirm the European future of the region of Western Balkans, to definitely maintain in the strong focus with Brussels and the thing very important to us, to continue with the individual evaluation of each country on their European path,” added Crnadak.

Minister for European Affairs of Ireland Helen McEntee stressed that BiH will continue to have the support of Ireland on its path to the EU, and expressed satisfaction that all responses to the European Commission Questionnaire have been harmonized and that they are in translation phase.

McEntee stated that she is familiar with the fulfillment of the obligations from the Reform Agenda, and that it is very important for BiH to meet all the conditions, such as rule of law, democracy, and other issues that are important for its future.

She added that Ireland also worked on the development of its entrepreneurship, as well as to keep its young people from leaving the county by creating preconditions for them to remain in Ireland.
