BIJELJINA, February 2 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Šarović confirmed today that the Russian Federation has requested to penalize the offenders in connection to the disputed export of apples from BiH to Russia, to eliminate the said business entities from future export processes, and for the existing system of registers and conditions by which one can be an exporter to be substantially improved.

“We must not allow any producer that has a foreign account to be able to export apples to Russia. Cooperative producers will have to be registered as agricultural holdings and have all the necessary equipment, including refrigerators. Also, they will have to declare their amount of production every year, so that that this problem with apples imported from Poland and then exported to Russia never happens again,” stressed Šarović.

He added that it is necessary to increase the control of importers of apples in BiH and their path after the import.

“If we establish a system that will reduce the possibility of fraud and abuse, it will be of great importance for the credibility of our producers, and in this way we will be able to preserve the existing and secure new markets,” said Šarović.

The competences in the field of phytosanitary supervision are at lower levels of government, that is, at the entity and cantonal levels.

“The state level is a contact point for cooperation with Russia and I personally signed the protocol that defines this cooperation,” explained the Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH in a statement to journalists in Bijeljina.

He also said that Republika Srpska removed the company suspected of controversial export of apples to Russia from the list of registered exporters.

He also confirmed that the export of meat from BiH to Turkey goes on unimpeded and that in 2018 there is a chance to export 10,000 tons, and at the moment Turkey has given a license for the export of 5,000 tons.
