Salkić: The entity of RS continues with its discrimination against non-Serbs

FENA Press release

BANJA LUKA, February 4 (FENA) - Vice President of the RS entity Ramiz Salkić said yesterday that by adopting the Draft Law on Victims of War Torture in RS, the entity authorities have continued their campaign of systemic discrimination against non-Serbs in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He reminded of the fact that this discriminatory law was adopted by the Government of RS, and that the goal of this systemic discrimination, as he said, is the creation of an environment with impossible living conditions for the remaining non-Serbs in this area.

Salkić explained that, according to the provisions of this law, it is completely clear that non-Serbs, who are victims of war torture in the RS entity, cannot exercise any of their rights.

“This law discriminates against more than a dozen thousands of Bosniaks, Croats and other non-Serbs in this entity without the possibility of any kind of compensation or any other form of satisfaction for the torture they were subjected to, from the previous governments and regimes in RS. If there is any responsibilities and morals in the approach and drafting of such a law, the government of this entity would put the victims of torture that are non-Serb in the forefront, because these victims are the result of the actions of their predecessors.

“It is regretful to see that the entity authorities once again close their eyes to the truth proven in courts and ignore thousands of Bosniak and Croat boys and men, as well as girls and women who have suffered torture and sexual abuse in the war camps, from Batković and Sušica to Keraterm and Omarska, but also throughout today's RS entity.

"I expect a strong reaction from the civil sector and human rights organizations, both in this entity and throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina," said the entity Vice-President.

The controversial draft law is proposed for consideration at the session of the entity parliament scheduled for 6 February.
