TJENTIŠTE, February 4 (FENA) - A landslide which has been activated in the Valley of the Heroes at Tjentište, is only some 15 meters away from the Memorial-Osuary, holding the remains of 3.301 fighters that perished in the Battle of Sutjeska during the World War II.
The monument, which was unveiled in 1971, symbolizes a breakthrough of the fighters that were fully surrounded on the battlefield in the Battle of Sutjeska in World War II, is an artwork of sculptor Miodrag Živković.
Director of the Sutjeska National Park, Dejan Pavlović stressed that in order to mitigate the damages, they will need help and assistance from all the competent institutions.
He warned that the situation is severely serious and that they still do not know if there will be other occurrences of landslides triggered by excessive rainfall.
This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Sutjeska.
