Stronger emphasis on EU integration – Sweden provides support to DEI BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 5 (FENA) - The Government of Sweden and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina today signed an agreement that will make available support amounting to up to 72 000 EUR to the Directorate for European Integration (DEI) of BiH over a three years period.

Ambassador of Sweden Anders Hagelberg pointed out: “The place for Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the EU. This spring the EU will take a substantial step for the future accession of the countries of the Western Balkans, which will be demonstrated in the Commission Enlargement Strategy, presented tomorrow. This provides a significant window of opportunity for BiH to take further steps to make an EU membership a reality. Joint and committed efforts are needed. This agreement demonstrates the commitment of Sweden to facilitate the EU integration of BiH and to do its part to contribute to BiH becoming a member state.”

The project aims to strengthen the capacities of the DEI/NIPAC Office to effectively and efficiently coordinate utilization of IPA II funds following the sector approach.

In 2018 alone, Sweden is providing bilateral development assistance to BiH amounting to around 16 million EUR, which contributes to the BiH coming closer to an EU-membership.

The development cooperation is focused on Economic development; Democracy, Rule of Law, Human Rights and Gender Equality; and Environment and Climate, stated the Embassy of Sweden in BiH.
