MOSTAR, Feb 7 (FENA) – Within his inaugural visit to Mostar, First Deputy High Representative, Dennis Hearne, pointed out that the OHR would not impose solutions regarding the Mostar City Statute and the electoral rules for the City.
The topics discussed at the meeting of the First Deputy High Representative and Mostar Mayor Ljubo Beslic were the current political, economic and administrative situation in Mostar, as well as the problems caused by the non-existence of the City Council.
Asked by journalists whether Mostar was again in the focus of the international community, given that there had been no local elections in Mostar since 2008, Hearne responded that he had not come with any new initiative or new idea.
- The international community is making some efforts, led by representatives of the United States and the European Union, and the aim of these efforts is to try to assist in finding solutions regarding the election rules - Hearne said.
According to his words, any results achieved within the process will depend on the political parties involved in it.
- I think it is clear to everyone that the situation in Mostar is special and that the current situation has been unchanged for too long. I hope that progress will be made within the talks - Hearne said.
Commenting on an article in a daily newspaper that the High Representative would impose a solution for Mostar, Hearne underlined that there were no initiatives within the OHR or talks that would go in the direction of imposition.
During the meeting, Mayor Bešlic asked for assistance in the reconstruction of devastated, war-damaged facilities as well as assistance to the work of public companies, because, as he said, there are great difficulties in their work due to the non –existence of the City Council.
Meetings have been agreed with the aim to try to find solutions so that everything can work, Mayor Beslic added.
Within the official visit to Mostar, the First Deputy High Representative, Dennis Hearne, also met with representatives of the cantonal Government as well as with representatives of non-governmental organizations.
