SARAJEVO, February 9 (FENA) - Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina Semiha Borovac and Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary General for the Prevention of Genocide Adama Dieng visited today the Memorial Center for Genocide Victims in Donja Gradina.

Minister Borovac said that she very much appreciates the decision of Special Adviser Adama Dieng to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina and to visit the memorial centers in Potočari and Donja Gradina and pay tribute to the victims of genocide, and the victims of the most severe and heinous war crimes committed during the World War II and the recent war in BiH.

“I will repeat what I said in Potočari yesterday - remembering the victims, all those who were killed, humiliated or disenfranchised  only because of their name, is the obligation of all who believe and are genuinely working with the goal of never allowing something like this to happen ever again,” stressed Borovac.

She added that the respect for any victim cannot be expressed by negating or minimizing any other victim.

She also pointed out that it is crucial to distance ourselves from those who publicly deny the committed crimes or celebrate criminals as heroes, no matter who they are.

Borovac said that open and honest dialogue, dealing with the truth and readiness to pay tribute to victims who do not belong only to our ethnic group, is the only way to reconcile and rebuild mutual trust that is a prerequisite for lasting peace and stability, not only in BiH, but across the region.

Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General for the Prevention of Genocide Adama Dieng said that what is crucial for BiH is that political leaders must forget about their selfishness and think about the interests of peoples and citizens of BiH.

"We are all here together and when we pay tribute to the victims, we honor them together, not as members of ethnic groups, but as people," Dieng said.

He expressed hope that others in BiH would do the same.

Dieng pointed out that we must never forget hundreds of thousands of people who belonged to different communities, religions, ethnic groups and "they were all killed here".

"We must never forget the victims," Dieng said.

Minister Borovac and Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General for the Prevention of Genocide also signed the Book of Condolence in Donja Gradina.
