MOSTAR, Feb 9 (FENA) - Croatian Radio and Television (HRT), after a four-year break, reopened its bureau in Mostar on Friday and announced the opening of one in Sarajevo.
On the occasion, the HRT General Manager, Kazimir Bacic, said that the reopening of the bureau in Mostar was one of the indicators of the care of the media house for the Croatian people in BiH.
- It is well known that BiH, and especially the status of Croats here , is one of the most important foreign policy issues of the Republic of Croatia. We have the longest land border with BiH, an in that context it is important fact that Croats in BiH have not yet a public television program in their mother tongue - Bacic said.
Therefore, he added, HRT, with constant coverage of events in BiH, strives to fill this void, with frequent reports within the informative, both radio and television, programs.
He also pointed out the HRT’s weekly broadcasts that deal with issues of Croats in BiH.
Bacic has added that presence of HRT in Herzegovina will be much greater, which is particularly important in the 2018 election.
He also announced that HRT's bureau in Sarajevo, besides the events in the capital of BiH, would also cover part of Central Bosnia as well as most of Republika Srpska.
The State Secretary at the Central State Office for Croats outside the Republic of Croatia, Zvonko Milas, said that the opening of the HRT bureau in Mostar was a strong message of the unity of one nation in two homelands, as well as a message that spoke what the Croatian people in BiH meant for Croatia.
On the occasion, BiH Presidency Chairman, Dragan Covic pointed out that the discontinuation of the work of the HRT in Mostar had made a great damage, especially to the Croatian people, in the context of the absence of a channel in Croatian language within the public broadcasting system in BiH.
- When it comes to the position of the Croatian people, BiH has its strategic interest in the Euro-Atlantic integrations, and to present it in a correct and credible way, your voice in the office will be a great assistance, both in Mostar and Sarajevo. I hope that the Croatian people and all inhabitants of BiH will have the opportunity to speak in a credible, correct and timely way about how BiH functions- said Covic, and reminded once again of the right of each people in the democratic world to information in the mother tongue.
Those present on the occasion were Minister of Finance of BiH Vjekoslav Bevanda, President of FBiH Marinko Cavara, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH Borjana Kristo, and numerous representatives of cantonal and city authorities, and persons from cultural and social life.
To remind, HRT opened its first bureau in BiH during the war, on July 27, 1992 in Siroki Brijeg.
