SARAJEVO, February 13 (MINA/FENA) - The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina is ready to assist the state in the care of refugees, but at the same time appeals to state authorities to activate action plans and coordinating bodies created for these situations.
Since the number of refugees arriving in BiH is growing ever more, there are increasingly more cases of them coming to the Islamic Community’s facilities seeking help. Starting from the moral obligation to meet these people’s needs, the Islamic Community in BiH has considered ways of assistance that would be in line with its capabilities and applicable legislation.
The Islamic Community has requested from the competent state authorities the information on the current status and plans for their accommodation as well as recommendations on what the Islamic Community can do to help the refugees as soon as possible, especially taking into account the deterioration of weather conditions.
Based on the previous experience, the recommendations of the state authorities and the fact that the mosques did not prove to be adequate solutions for the accommodation of these persons, the Islamic Community in BiH urged the state authorities to ensure adequate accommodation and other forms of assistance to refugees, according to the norms of international legal protection.
“The mosques cannot be the first and only solution to accommodate refugees, but the last one,” stated the Islamic Community in BiH.
The Islamic Community has already donated food aid to those organizations working on the care of refugees. It has been sending assistance since 2015 to the places through which refugees passed and is now inviting all its members and bodies to help the state respond to this humanitarian and human crisis, reported MINA news agency.
