MOSTAR, Feb 14 (FENA) – The Association of Antifascists and National Liberation Fighters (UABNOR) Mostar started the observance of the Mostar Libertaion Day -February 14- on Wednesday by laying flowers at the memorial plaque to the fighters in Blagaj and in front of the bust of the national hero of Mostar Dr. Safet Mujic.
Speaking about the significance of the bservance of the Day, President of the UABNOR Mostar, Sead Djulic, said that February 14 was one of the most important dates in the history of this City, adding that it is important for young people to know what happened at that time.
This date is important, says Djulic, because on that day, after four years of occupation and suffering, in a major operation directly led by the Supreme Staff of the then Army, the City was liberated from fascism.
- In Europe, May 9 is marked as the Day of Victory over Fascism, and here we are taught that we should be ashamed of February 14 when we, three months before Europe, got freedom when we defeated fascism and expelled it from the City - Djulic explained.
It is a day which we should remember of, but we also should tell the truth to young people.
Flowers will be also laid in front of the bust of the national hero Mustafa Cemalović Cimbe, the Memorial to the Illegal, at Musala and Sehitluci, while at the Cultural Center in Mostar the second edition of the book "Tito and We, today, tomorrow " will be promoted.
On the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of Mostar from fascism in the Second World War, UABNOR organized the manifestation "Days of Antifascism in Mostar", which has been held from 12 to 17 February.
The central event of the observance, which, according to the announcements of the organizers, will gather over a thousand guests from BiH and the countries of the former Yugoslavia, will take place on Saturday, February 17. On that occasion, at the National Theater Mostar, at 10:00 hrs , a solemn academy will be held, while at 12:30 hrs the laying of flowers at the Partisan Memorial Cemetery in Mostar is to follow.
