EU perspective of Western Balkans countries priority of Bulgarian presidency

SOFIA/SARAJEVO, February 16 (FENA) – Chairman of the Joint Committee on Defense and Security of BiH Sifet Podžić is taking part in the Interparliamentary Conference on Common Foreign, Security and Defense Policy of the European Union, which began today in Sofia as part of the six-month Bulgarian EU presidency.

A two-day gathering of parliamentarians in the Bulgarian capital focuses on the EU enlargement process and on the European perspective of the Western Balkans countries after the adoption of the EU Strategy for this region.

The Conference participants were addressed by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Bulgaria Tsveta Karayancheva, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Bulgaria Dzhema Grozdanova and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament David McAllister.

In the introductory addresses, the speakers emphasized that the highest priority of the Bulgarian EU presidency was the work and support for the EU perspective of the Western Balkans countries.

In addition to discussing the implementation of the EU Strategy for the Western Balkan countries, the Conference also focuses on the strengthening of EU and NATO cooperation, the development of EU military capabilities, the situation in the Black Sea region, and the topic entitled “EU as a Global Player a Year after Signing Rome Declaration”, stated the BiH PA.
