MOSTAR/ SARAJEVO, Feb 19 (FENA) - From January 1 to February 18, 2018, members of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina caught 373 migrants from high-risk countries in an attempt or immediately after the illegal crossing of the state border, which is an increase compared to the same period of the last year.
Out of the above mentioned number, 109 are citizens of Syria, 49 Libya, 36 Afghanistan, 35 Palestine, 34 Pakistan, 19 Algeria, 17 Morocco, 16 Iraq, 13 Turkey, 12 Iran, 5 Tunisia, 2 Bangladesh, 3 of India and Albania, respectively, 20 citizens from Kosovo, says the statement issued by the Border Police of BiH.
The illegal migrants were discovered in the areas of Trebinje, Gacko, Visegrad, Zvornik, Velika Kladusa, Foca, Bijeljina, Bihac, Brcko and Posusje. Additionally, by engaging police officers at the very border line between BiH and Montenegro, 320 migrants gave up on attempting to illegally cross border .
The BiH Border Police recalls that they continue to undertake a series of preventive and repressive measures and actions to monitor the state border: patrols, surveillance and observation, collection of intelligence data, checkpoints, and implementation of operational actions and mixed patrols along the common state border of BiH with neighboring countries.
Also, due to the registration of a number of cases of use of the cargo space of motor vehicles for smuggling migrants, a provisional measure has been introduced for increased control and mandatory inspection of all cargo vehicles that enter BiH from Serbia and Montenegro.
