FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 21 (FENA) - Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH Semiha Borovac and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to BiH Anders Hagelberg signed a special agreement to support the implementation of the FIGAP II program (2018-2021), worth 14 million Swedish crowns, or about 2.9 million KM, intended for the realization of the Gender Action Plan and the Gender Equality Act in our country, the ministry said.

Minister Borovac emphasized on this occasion that the Kingdom of Sweden has been one of the most important donors and partners and expressed gratitude for the unselfish financial support that will contribute to the full implementation of the Gender Action Plan of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Gender Equality Principle as one of the prerequisites for respect for human rights and a very important step forward in the process of European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The funds provided by the Swedish government will enable the support to people who, because of their gender have been on the margins of our society, especially victims of domestic violence and long-term unemployed women, and special attention will be paid to greater participation of men in gender equality activities,” said Borovac.

Equal participation of women in society is the basis for prosperity and economic development of the society as a whole.

“Issues of gender equality need to be a political priority in BiH, and we urgently need the initiatives for economic empowerment of women and girls,” emphasizes the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Bosnia and Herzegovina Anders Hagelberg.

Activities under FIGAP II will contribute to creating better socio-economic conditions for women and men, improving the quality of life through stronger cooperation between government institutions at all levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina, civil society organizations and the academic community, stated the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH.
