FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 22 (FENA) - Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Adil Osmanović met in Sarajevo with the Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture, Ana Luiza Thompson-Flores, with whom he discussed the cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and UNESCO.

“In 2018 Bosnia and Herzegovina will mark 25 years of UNESCO membership, which will be marked by a number of different activities. Cooperation with the UNESCO Office in Sarajevo is on an enviable level, so we hope that together with the celebration of the anniversary we will jointly implement a series of successful activities,” said Minister Osmanović, announcing that a conference of the Ministers of Culture of South-East Europe will be held in Sarajevo in April.

Special attention was paid to the implementation of UNESCO conventions, the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs said.

Minister Osmanović informed the director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau that several activities have been carried out in the previous period on the implementation of the Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property, including the establishment of a coordination working body composed of representatives of all competent institutions in BiH, who also participated in the training organized in cooperation with the Italian Carabinieri.

He announced that in the forthcoming period, through the TAIEX program of the European Union, a workshop on the subject of this convention will be organized, where representatives of all relevant institutions and museums in BiH will take part.

The Minister expressed particular satisfaction with Bosnia and Herzegovina being accepted as a member of the World Heritage Committee, as well as Haggadah's entry into the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.

“This will, along with the newly renovated exhibition space for Haggadah at the National Museum of BiH, contribute to the promotion of this exceptional example of documentary heritage, important not only for people in Bosnia and Herzegovina but also beyond,” concluded Minister Adil Osmanović in a meeting with the Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, Ana Luiza Thompson-Flores.
