SARAJEVO, February 23 (FENA) - Association EDUS-Education for All, in cooperation with UNICEF and USAID, is holding a two-day educational conference on the topic "Improving the Early Intervention Service in BiH".
It is the first scientific instrument developed in the Balkans aimed at monitoring early growth and development of children, as well as deviations in development.
During the first day of the conference, a pilot study on the efficiency of the basic concept of the system of early childhood development centers, developed through multisectoral cooperation between line ministries, UNICEF and EDUS, was presented.
“We all know well that a child will have a happier and better life if the diagnosis is established earlier. The aim of today's gathering is to get the most accurate, relevant information and results for establishing a diagnosis in children,” said the Director of the Mission of the United States International Development Agency (USAID), Peter Duffy.
He added that everyone should know that the first three years of child’s development are the most important for his or her further life.
UNICEF Representative for BiH, Geeta Narayan, emphasized that it was necessary to, through quality early growth and development services, help children learn, grow with adequate stimulation and that children who have difficulties be provided with adequate support.
She emphasized that it was very important, in order that children with intellectual and developmental disabilities be included in society, to work equally with parents, children, school counselors and the whole society.
"We need to work with all segments of society, not just with individuals," Ms. Narayan said.
She believes that everyone should learn and everyone should be educated in order to make a step forward and include children in society.
