SARAJEVO, February 27 (FENA) - Commander of the EUFOR peacekeeping forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina Major General Anton Waldner visited today the seat of the Foreigners’ Affairs Service and on that occasion held a meeting with the Head of the Service with whom he discussed the current situation and issues under its authority with special with emphasis on the problems of an increased number of irregular migrants in BiH.
Director of the Foreigners’ Affairs Service Slobodan Ujić informed the EUFOR Commander about the work of the Service, its competencies, organizational structure and role it has in the security system of BiH, as well as the current situation concerning multiple increases in number of irregular migrants in BiH, because the number of migrants has drastically increased in the previous year and this trend continued in 2018.
Major General Anton Waldner emphasized that EUFOR recognizes the key role of the Foreigners’ Affairs Service in securing a safe environment in BiH.
“As the Commander of EUFOR, I am convinced that our cooperation would be successful and I would like to point out that EUFOR is ready to support the Foreigners’ Affairs Service in accordance with our mandate, in order help BiH institutions in maintaining a safe environment in BiH,” Mr. Waldner said.
He stressed that by signing a Memorandum of Understanding, an even better cooperation between the Service and EUFOR would be established, given that both organizations are dealing with security issues.
Mr. Ujić stressed that, despite the difficult circumstances, the Service is successfully controlling the trend of additional increase in illegal entries and is preventing the emergence of a migration crisis in BiH through joint service and day-to-day cooperation with the relevant institutions, the Foreigners’ Affairs Service said.
