SARAJEVO, February 28 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency Member Bakir Izetbegović congratulated today all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina March 1- the Independence Day.
“The Independence Day, celebrated on March 1, has a special place in the calendar of important dates in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On that day, 26 years ago, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina determined the destiny of their homeland and its future. The people of this country, 64 percent of citizens from all ethnic and religious communities, boldly and dignified voted in a referendum for a sovereign and independent Bosnia and Herzegovina, a state of equal citizens and peoples, Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats, as well as members of all other peoples who live in this country,” said Izetbegović in his congratulatory letter.
Izetbegović pointed out that BiH would not exist today and we would not be celebrating this important date if it were not for the most honorable, bravest and best Bosnian sons who defended this country from the military aggression.
“They not only defend our cities and villages, they defended the essential civilizational values of the modern world. That is why we must never forget them. It is our debt to past, present and future generations. I congratulate all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina this Independence Day,” said Izetbegović.
