BANJA LUKA, March 5 (FENA) - Transparency International in Bosnia and Herzegovina (TIBiH) continues insisting that the appointment of Blagoje Simić as director of the Health Center in Bosanski Šamac, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the worst war crimes in the Hague Tribunal, be thoroughly investigated.

TiBiH analyst Uglješa Vuković emphasized that they have filed a complaint to the Ombudsman Institution of BiH, and they expect that the recommendation will go in favor of the TI BiH request, since a court verdict in this case has already been rendered in their favor as well.

He reminded that this non-governmental organization filed a complaint against the decision of the Assembly of the Municipality of Bosanski Šamac on the appointment of Blagoje Simić, who was convicted as the highest civil servant in the Bosanski Šamac municipality during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Since the person in question was convicted of war crimes, it is obvious that the person is not fit for the job,” said Vuković.

Among the general conditions of the public call for the appointment of the director of the Bosanski Šamac Health Center, was the one saying that the candidates cannot have prior criminal convictions, but, according to Vuković, the local police administration issued a document to Simić, stating that he has no prior criminal record.

Representatives of TI BiH pointed out that more than 1,500 citizens in 2017 addressed this non-governmental organization in order to report corruption cases, which they most often face in employment.

“Almost half of the reported cases (47 percent), to which TIBiH responded in 2017, referred to the sector of state administration, the judiciary and education sector,” said Ivana Korajlić, TIBiH spokeswoman at the press conference.

She stated that citizens mostly complained about irregularities in the procedures of employment of civil servants, but also on employment procedures in public companies.
