MOSTAR, Mar 5 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Marija Pejcinovic Buric, pointed out on Monday in Mostar that the Republic of Croatia would always provide active friendly support to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European and Euro-Atlantic path, adding that the election of legitimate representatives is a key to the surviving of Croats in BiH.
- The European path provides for Bosnia and Herzegovina a better prosperity, better international relations, and good neighborly relations with Croatia - the Croatian minister told reporters, underlying that the issue regarding the amendments to the Election Law of BiH is certainly the crucial one at this time.
Minister Pejcinovic Buric started the official visit to Mostar by a meeting with BiH Presidency Chairman Dragan Covic, at which a series of topics of crucial importance to Croats in BiH were discussed, among them the most important issue of their political equality.
On the occasion, Cović informed the Croatian Minister about handing over the EC’s Questionnaire to the top functionaries of the European Commission and pointed out that now it was necessary to speed up activities related to the BiH candidacy status and resume all the reform processes, says the statement issued by the BiH Presidency Office.
- The issue of changing the Election Law of BiH is certainly the crucial one, because we believe that the legitimate representation of the Croatian people at this moment is the key to the survival of the Croatian people in BiH. The issue regarding the amendments to the Election Law of BiH in a way of recognizing legitimacy, i.e. that Croats elect their legitimate representatives in BiH authority bodies, lies in the Constitution of BiH itself, in the roots that established the constitutionality of the Dayton Agreement and I think that we need to return to these original provisions - said the Croatian Minister.
She also welcomed a message by representatives from Brussels, who, when BiH’s answers to the EC’s Questionnaire were handed over, reiterated that the first important task before the BiH institutions were the amendments to the Election Law so that legitimate representatives of the Croatian people would be elected at the October election
When asked what she expected from the trilateral meeting of foreign ministers to be held in Mostar tomorrow, she said the aim of the meeting was to see in which context all the three countries can work to the benefit of their future prospects.
- First of all it is the European path of BiH and Serbia, and Croatia can help them with its experience. The European path is actually a transformative path for all of us who, unfortunately, have experienced the war. The European road is the right one for reconciliation and building of a new, common and good future for the three countries - said Minister Pejcinovic Buric.
After the meeting with President Covic, the Croatian FM met with rector of Mostar University Zoran Tomić. After that, visits to the Croatian National Theater, the University Clinical Hospital Mostar, and the Franciscan Monastery of St. Peter and Paul in Mostar are to follow.
