Japan helps rehabilitation of two primary schools in Bijeljina and Rogatica

SARAJEVO, March 11 (FENA) - The Government of Japan has decided to provide grant aid in the amount of 143,649 Euros (approx. 280,000 KM) for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Knez Ivo od Semberije Primary School in Bijeljina” and “The Project for Rehabilitation of Sveti Sava Primary School in Rogatica”.

The grant contract will be signed by Mr. Akihito Teruuchi, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Japan and the principals of these two primary schools at the signing ceremony to be held at 11:00 on Monday, 12 March 2018, at the Embassy of Japan, Sarajevo.

The first grant is 69,096 Euros (approx. 135,000 KM) for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Knez Ivo od Semberije Primary School in Bijeljina”, and the second is 74,553 Euros (approx. 145,000 KM) for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Sveti Sava Primary School in Rogatica”.

The purpose of these two projects is to improve educational environment by replacing deteriorated joineries such as windows and doors in the school buildings.

The deterioration of these school buildings is serious problem; for instance uncontrollable temperature inside the rooms and danger of being injured by the broken joineries.

These two grant contracts will help to renovate the school buildings and to improve educational environment for about 2,000 children and about 230 teachers and school staffs in the two primary schools.

Japan is one of the largest bilateral donors in BiH. Under various schemes (i.e. General Grant Aid, Loan Aid, Technical Cooperation and Cultural Grant Aid), Japan’s assistance to BiH reached around 1 billion KM during the past 20 years, covering vital sectors such as primary health care, education, demining, environment protection, infrastructure etc. Japan will continue to support BiH with the aim to contribute to socio-economic development in these key areas, stated the Embassy of Japan in BiH.
