SARAJEVO, March 14 (FENA) - Director of the Program Section of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Fermin Cordoba today visited the newly established Anti-Corruption and Quality Management Office of the Sarajevo Canton, the first of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The visit represents a continuation of cooperation and support provided by the OSCE Mission to the institutions of BiH in the fight against corruption, and in particular the Government of the Sarajevo Canton.
After the meeting with the Head of the Office for Combating Corruption and Quality Management, Erduan Kafedžić, Cordoba pointed out that corruption in BiH affects all citizens and endangers prosperity and sustainable development of the country.
“At least formally, BiH has recognized the need to establish a systematic approach to the fight against corruption. One of these efforts is the establishment of anti-corruption teams. Today we had the opportunity to meet with the excellent team of the Sarajevo Canton,” added Cordoba.
He believes that the decision of the SC Government on the establishment of a permanent Anti-Corruption Office is an important step forward and that the office must be free to work without political influence.
“The OSCE Mission to BiH appreciates the steps that the SC Government has undertaken to systematically address the problem of corruption, and will continue to be dedicated partner in pursuing establishment of an efficient system in BiH,” stressed Cordoba.
