SARAJEVO, March 19 (FENA) - Women in BiH are faced with many obstacles in the labor market and entrepreneurship which represents a major economic loss for the country, it was stressed today at the World Bank presentation which was held today in Sarajevo.
The presentation titled "Gathering evidence on inclusive growth and job creation in the Western Balkans: The Gender Prism", a senior economist of the World Bank for Western Balkans Maria E. Davalos said that some of the obstacles are related to availability of childcare, but also social norms that prevent women from even looking for work.
“In addition to this, obstacles for women also come in form of hindered access to means of production, ownership registration, and access to finance,” Davalos explained.
She added that the rules concerning maternity leave also represent one of key problems, and that due to all these different aspects women do not have the same access to work opportunities that men do.
Financial expert with the The World Bank, Johanna Jaeger, emphasized that women entrepreneurs in BiH face financial barriers when it comes to access to loans, leasing or the amount of collateral in relation to men entrepreneurs.
Jaeger also noted that women entrepreneurs are on average younger than their male counterparts, but also that, in average, they run smaller businesses.
