SDA, SBB, SDP, DF: Redifine competences of FBiH House of Peoples

FENA Hana Imamović

SARAJEVO, April 4 (FENA) - The need for removing asymmetry when it comes to the competences of the FBiH Parliament House of Peoples and the Council of Peoples of the Republika Srpska was one of the things that were today agreed by the representatives of BiH political parties at a meeting with representatives of the international community in BiH.

As they explained, this would mean that the FBiH House of Peoples would be competent to decide on the jeopardized vital national interest, and not, as it is the case, be the legislator with the same competences or even greater than the House of Representatives.

The meeting, hosted by the US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maureen Cormack, attended by the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation in BiH, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, and Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Palmer, was rated as positive.

At the US Ambassador's residency, the leaders of the Democratic Action Party (SDA), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Alliance for a Better Future (SBB) and the Democratic Front (DF): Bakir Izetbegović, Nermin Nikšić, Fahrudin Radončić and Željko Komšić discussed the amendments to the Election Law.

After the meeting, they explained to the journalists that they did not oppose the increase in the number of delegates in the FBiH Parliament House of Peoples, considering that such amendments would also enable the implementation of the decision of the BiH Constitutional Court on the appeal of Božo Ljubić, but they believe that they should wait for the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) BiH to declare itself.

SDA President Bakir Izetbegović said that the common attitude of participants of today's meeting was that all that is to be done in terms of amendments to the Election Law must be based on the 1991 census, which, he reminds, is the constitutional obligation.

For SBB leader Fahrudin Radončić, it is important that these parties had identical views and that significant progress was made, reiterating that it is also important to respect the 1991 census as the Annex VII of the Dayton Peace Agreement has not been implemented.

He added that SBB would not oppose an increase in the number of delegates in the FBiH Parliament House of Peoples.

SDP President Nermin Nikšić said that for the first time he had come out satisfied after several meetings on the issue of amending the Election Law.

Journalists were also addressed by DF leader Željko Komšić, who also confirmed that these four parties, headquartered in Sarajevo, have the same views, especially emphasizing that the proposed solutions would facilitate implementation of the BiH Constitutional Court’s decision.
