SARAJEVO, April 5 (FENA) - By laying wreaths at memorial sites and a commemorative program at the House of Culture in Vratnik, today was marked the 73rd anniversary of the arrival of the first Partisan units through the Višegrad Gate during the liberation of Sarajevo on 5 April 1945.

“Today we mark the 73rd anniversary of the arrival of the first Partisan unit, the 16th Muslim National Liberation Assault Brigade, in occupied Sarajevo, before the end of the Second World War. More precisely, on April 5, 1945, the Partisans entered through the Višegrad Gate to free the city of Sarajevo from the fascists,” said the president of the Steering Board of the Association of Antifascists and Veterans of the National Liberation War of Stari Grad municipality, Mirsad Hajdar, reminding that Sarajevo was liberated by the fighters of different ethnicities.

Mr. Hajdar pointed out that anti-fascists from the whole region were gathering today at the Višegrad Gate and that it was an international gathering.

“We welcome the guests from Slovenia, Serbia, Montenegro and from the cities of BiH and I expect that there will be around 300 participants,” said Mr. Hajdar.
