SARAJEVO, April 10 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Russian Federation have good, friendly relations, and that country does not interfere in BiH's internal affairs, it was highlighted today after the two countries' parliamentarians' meeting in Sarajevo.

The Russian Federation is the seventh foreign trade partner and the fourth most significant investor in BiH, but there is room for improving economic relations, especially when it comes to export of agricultural and food products to the Russian market and energy and tourism.

The two countries have good cooperation in higher education, reflected for example in the fact that between 40 and 50 state scholarships were awarded to students from BiH and today it was agreed to intensify cooperation between the parliaments of BiH and Russia.

The members of the delegation of the Russian Federation's State Duma Friendship Group, who are in a two-day visit to BiH, met today with the members of the Collegiums of both Houses of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly and the members of the Friendship Group for Central and Eastern Europe.

The delegation from Russia is led by a parliamentarian at the Russian Federation's State Duma Igor Divinsky, who said that the arrival of this delegation was the first in the series of steps aimed at developing ties among parliamentarians.

“We are peoples who have common roots and I am confident that we have many opportunities to share experiences on different issues. The rich experience of peoples in BiH should be known everywhere in the world,” Mr. Divinsky said.

The representative of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) at the BiH PA House of Representatives and a member of the Friendship Group for Central and Eastern Europe, Staša Košarac, emphasizes that this visit is a confirmation of good and rich bilateral relations in the area of politics, economy, culture and education.

He thanked the delegation from Russia on their important and constructive role in the United Nations (UN) and the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), pointing out that they respect the Dayton Peace Agreement and encourage internal dialogue and consensus of political representatives in BiH.

Mr. Košarac thanked the guests from Russia for the implementation of the Russian Federation Clearing Debt Agreement because BiH is the only country from the former Yugoslavia territory, to whom the debt in the amount of 125 million dollars was paid in cash.
