TUZLA, April 11 (FENA) - The president of the Srebrenica Women's Association Hajra Ćatić said the second instance verdict of Vojislav Šešelj, which was handed over by the Appeals Chamber of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals today, sentencing him to 10 years in prison for war crimes in Croatia and BiH, which he has already served, was shameful.
She said she was disappointed with the ten-year sentence that Šešelj received in the second-instance proceedings, accusing The Hague Tribunal, i.e. the International Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Courts of being under political influence.
“We have been fighting for justice and truth for so many years, but there is no justice. If he was convicted for six municipalities, we know what that would mean, Serbia would be responsible for the aggression on BiH and Croatia,” Ms. Ćatić said.
She added that Šešelj had been disrespecting the court, provoking the victims and insulting them, and in the end received a shameful sentence.
A member of the Srebrenica Women's Association Vasvija Kadić, who lost three brothers and a father in the past war, said that today's sentence has killed the victims’ families both mentally and morally.
She believes that the relevant courts act under the influence of politics, which is devastating for the victims of genocide, as well as their families.
