SARAJEVO, April 17 (FENA) - From October 2017 to March 2018, French prosecutors were on missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and Serbia's prosecutor’s offices to analyze the specific functioning of the judiciary in these countries, their deficiencies and needs, in the goal of development of future support activities.
As far as Bosnia and Herzegovina is concerned, honorary Chief Prosecutor Bernard Legras was on two missions in judicial institutions from May to June 2017 and from February to March 2018.
The results of these missions were presented on April 17 in Sarajevo under the lecture entitled "The Balkans - Another Form of International Cooperation in the Judiciary". Among the lecturers were French Ambassador to BiH Guillaume Rousson and President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH Milan Tegeltija.
The lecture was organized by JCI - Justice Coopération Internationale, an institution belonging to the French Ministry of Justice, in charge of international cooperation for the development of the rule of law, in cooperation with the French Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The French honorary chief prosecutor Bernard Legras, who conducted two missions in the justice institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2017 and 2018, presented in this lecture his proposals for improving the work of prosecutors against corruption. He appealed that the amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code were quickly adopted to allow the use of special investigative measures and end "legal uncertainty" that was weakening ongoing proceedings.
He also stressed the importance of educating judges and prosecutors on ethics and deontology, as well as on communicating with the media in order to better resist destabilization and disinformation attempts with regard to investigations. Finally, Mr. Legras suggested that Bosnia and Herzegovina should consider establishing a law enforcement agency based on the model in France, the French Embassy to BiH stated.
