SARAJEVO, April 18 (FENA) - Commission for Preservation of National Monuments of BiH, in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy to BiH, gathered Central Bosnia Canton pupils in Sarajevo in a camp named "My Bosnia and Herzegovina – My Heritage" on the International Day for Monuments and Sites.

Adviser for History of Art in the Commission for Preservation of National Monuments Aida Bičakčić stated that pupils learnt through interactive workshops in the National Museum, but they also visited localities that have been proclaimed national monuments.

Camp is a part of a project that carries the same name, whose aim is to provide basic knowledge to elementary school pupils on heritage protection, but also to teach them which institutions they can turn to in case they notice a cultural monument is endangered.

Bičakčić emphasized motto of this-year's International Monument Day is "Heritage for Generations" and the project they are implementing is intended for the future generations.

"We want pupils to carry beautiful memories, which is most important because love for heritage begins with memories," she said.

Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Embassy to BiH Drew Giblin emphasized that culture and cultural institutions are important for development of society, that they can be tool for development of economy.

"It is important for young people to know that. We are proud to have an opportunity to partner with people in BiH, celebrate your culture, but also help the cultural institutions," he emphasized.

One-day visit was organized within a campaign "My Bosnia and Herzegovina, My Heritage", which the Commission has been implementing since 2006.

Goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of pupils on importance of cultural-historic heritage and encourage responsibility for its preservation by asserting wealth of diversities of BiH tradition and culture and the fact that cultural heritage is unique, irreplaceable and an integral part of our identity.

Campaign "My Bosnia and Herzegovina, My Heritage" is supported by the U.S. Embassy to BiH through the Democracy Commission Program.
