SARAJEVO, April 20 (FENA) - A draft of the manual for non-formal basic adult education for Roma and family-oriented learning manual that deals with literacy, digital and mathematical skills was presented today in Sarajevo, under the project "Basic Education for Adult Roma - BERA" funded by the European Union.

The manuals are intended for the personnel who will work on non-formal adult education of Roma and will provide them with the necessary information required in their line of work, such as program structure, methodological instructions and exercises examples.

The organizer of today's event was Caritas BiH who gathered at the EU info center representatives of educational institutions, social work centers, non-governmental organizations working with the Roma population as well as adult education, and representatives of Roma organizations to give advice, suggestions and comments on the presented parts of the manuals.

Head of the Department for Political and Economic Affairs of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH, Jan Snaidauf underlined the EU's commitment to the social and economic integration of Roma people in BiH.

“The social and economic inclusion of the Roma community in BiH is a clear priority for the European Union.

Since 2007, the EU has provided more than seven million euros for the process of Roma integration in BiH.

However, despite the fact that the right to education is a fundamental human right, many children and young people cannot exercise this right due to numerous obstacles.

Our goal is for equal opportunities to be provided for everyone. Therefore, I hope that the manuals we are discussing today will contribute to this goal," he said.

He emphasizes that the project aims to enable adult Roma, who have not attended school, to gain new competences and thus improve their chances of employment, which will facilitate their integration into society.

The project "Basic Education for Adult Roma - BERA" was launched in 2015 in response to the growing need for non-formal education of the Roma population and is financed by EU under the Erasmus + Program.
