SARAJEVO, April 25 (FENA) - Swedish tax authorities today and tomorrow will hold a presentation in Sarajevo on tax issues and on what preparations are needed in BiH in the short and long term perspective.
The seminar will be attended by more than 30 participants from ministries and tax administrations in BiH, including some embassies and donors.
The tax administrations in BiH and the Swedish Tax Agency have been cooperating since September last year with the aim of improving the efficiency and services of tax administrations.
Swedish Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Anders Hagelberg pointed out that the goal of the project was to make tax collection more efficient.
“We have close cooperation, we started in September last year and the cooperation will last three years and all of this is financed by Sweden with 3 million euros. Over the past 30 years, the Swedish Tax Agency has passed from the phase where we had inspectors to become an agency that is oriented towards providing services. It is a completely different way of thinking," Mr. Hagelberg said.
He explained that the Swedish taxpayers see the Swedish Tax Agency as number one institution when it comes to popularity.
“I would like to add that the Swedish Tax Agency has had similar projects in some other countries, such as South Africa or Botswana, where the outcome was that tax agencies in these countries became more or less oriented to the services,” the Ambassador said.
He said that even if the environment is difficult and complex, it is not impossible to make progress.
"Today we are focusing on international cooperation, and I would say that in a globalized world, tax agencies have to work together," Mr. Hagelberg concluded.
