OLOVO, May 11 (FENA) - Mine of the Mineco British Group officially opened in Olovo yesterday, which is the first mine in BiH after 30 years and the only one with the underground metal exploitation, where the best world practice and technology will be applied.

After six years, more than 40 permits and over 12 million KM of investments by the Minaco British Group, the mine has engaged dozens of local suppliers and companies and it has around 120 employees. Mine is in the process of obtaining series of permits for the separation stage to get to the final product for export.

Director of operations of Mineco Group Dominic Roberts emphasized this would not be possible without close cooperation with the competent ministries and institutions and common wish for this investment to succeed. He also reminded that the best international practice and technology will be applied in the mine, which will enable a safe working environment without negative impact on the environment.

"This is the safest mine in BiH which set standards for further development of mining in the country," said Roberts.

Stressing importance of these investments, Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry of FBiH Nermin Džindić promised the ministry will support the process for obtaining all permits, in order to continue development of mining in our country.

Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Special Representative Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigermark emphasized he is pleased the European Union gave its contribution to opening of this mine in Olovo through its research and innovation program Horizon 2020 and pointed out that BiH has enormous potential for development of mining.

"European Union followed this project and we hope the mine will support economic development, creation of new workplaces and overall growth in Olovo but also in the entire country," said Wigemark, noting that Olovo is a good example of an environment where private-public partnerships are successful.

British Ambassador to BiH Edward Ferguson welcomed this capital investment of the British company Mineco, which already employs hundreds of people across BiH.

"Mineco has an excellent reputation when it comes to security standards and environmental protection and we expect full support from competent institutions for the remaining administrative procedures for the mine to become operational in full capacity and enable long-term, sustainable employment for hundreds of people in Olovo and nearby municipalities," said Ambassador Ferguson.

Total capacity, that is, durability of the mine is assessed to 25 years. Investment amounting to five million euros is planned for next year for the most modern engine for mineral processing (gravity separation) and building of landfill and associated infrastructure.
