TUZLA, May 25 (FENA) - The 23rd anniversary of the massacre at the Tuzla Gate, the place where on May 25, 1995, at 20:55 hours the aggressor’s shell fired from Ozren killed 71 young people, wounding 124, was marked today by the laying of the wreaths and paying respects to civilian victims of war at the Slana Banja memorial site.
The wreaths were laid by the members of families of victims, representatives of the executive and legislative FBiH, cantonal and city authorities, representatives of religious communities, political parties, numerous associations and citizens.
FBiH Minister of Veterans Affairs Salko Bukvarević told FENA that it was necessary to continue to mark these significant dates from the aggression period in BiH and that they are marked with a message and the goal that neither aggression nor genocide, nor killing of young people never happens again to anyone and that peace, coexistence and prosperity of BiH develops.
“Today we are here to pay our respects to the victims of the Tuzla massacre, to once again tell the truth about the suffering of BiH citizens in one of the most brutal aggression against our homeland and to ask the judiciary to punish all those who committed this crime. We will never stop searching for the truth for our killed youth,” Mr. Bukvarević said.
The Prime Minister of the Tuzla Canton, Jakub Suljkanović, in his statement to FENA, reminded that this date used to be marked as the Day of Youth, but unfortunately in the recent history it is marked as the day of the killed youth in Tuzla.
"What saddens me as a human being is the fact that to this day, people responsible for the crime at the Tuzla Gate are not brought to justice and they walk freely," Mr. Suljkanović said, adding that everyone must do whatever it takes to ensure that the perpetrators of the crime get a well-deserved punishment.
