SARAJEVO, June 1 (FENA) - The Veterans' Union of the Novi Grad Municipality organized today the marking of the 25th anniversary of the deaths of the residents of Dobrinja who were killed during a five-a-side football Eid tournament in 1993.
The delegations of the Canton, the City of Sarajevo and the Municipality of Novi Grad placed flowers at a memorial site located on the parking lot between the Dobrinja Children's Square and the City of Baku Street in Dobrinja.
Sarajevo Canton Minister for Veterans' Affairs Muharem Fišo said that everyone should ask themselves why 25 years later no one has been found responsible for this abominable crime in which two mortar shells fired from aggressors' position from Veljine direction killed 15 and seriously and lightly injured over 100 mostly young people.
"The citizens of besieged Sarajevo and residents of Dobrinja that were surrounded from all sides fought to survive the siege in all ways possible and this Eid tournament was their way to show that we strive to live in a civilized and dignified way, even in the most difficult conditions," Mr. Fišo said.
