SARAJEVO, June 1 (FENA) - The publication "Invisible Violence: Stories from the Newsroom", featuring various experiences of journalists in the newsrooms in BiH, Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo, was presented today at the Sarajevo Networks.

The publication contains collected testimonies of male and female journalists about the internal pressures they face in everyday work, and an article by Viktor Ivančić „Od medijske posluge do dželatske službe“ ("from media service to the executioner duty)".

Research was presented by journalists: Žarka Radoja (Serbia), Biljana Sekulovska (Macedonia), Nidžara Ahmetašević (BiH), Una Hajdari (Kosovo) and Milica Bogdanović (Montenegro).

Through more than 50 interviews with male and female journalists employed in public, commercial and non-profit, ie civil society media, which were conducted from January to May this year, researchers have attempted to bring the public closer to the conditions in which journalists work because this is not discussed at length in public.

Initial research questions were concerned with to what extent journalists are able to do their work and how much their work rights are respected.

The common conclusion of all researchers is that journalists are afraid to talk about the situation within their newsrooms.

Biljana Sokolovska from Nova TV news website points out that journalists are afraid to talk about their rights, the workers' rights, the pressures.

She stated that the salaries of journalists in Macedonia were between 100 and 300 euros, but that they do not want to be left out of work.

When it comes to political pressure, she pointed out that this is seen through the pacts between editors, owners and political parties.

All researchers particularly stressed the degree of fear of journalists to talk about the pressures they face.

They concluded that journalists in these five countries are confronted with similar problems when it comes to their rights, censorship, self-censorship, the lack of possibility to get permanent employment, ie long-term contractual work...

This is the second meeting of the Journalist Network, which brings together more than 70 journalists from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia.

Journalists' talks are organized within the regional project "Invisible Violence: Stories from the Newsroom“ funded by the European Union and is part of the program "Protecting Media Freedom and Freedom of Expression in the Western Balkans".
