SARAJEVO, June 5 (FENA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH PA) Mladen Bosić and his deputy Šefik Džaferović met today with Alfredo Conte, the counselor in the Cabinet of the representative at the House of Representatives of the Italian Parliament Paola Severino, with whom they discussed combating corruption in BiH.
Mr. Bosić thanked for the support that the institutions of the Republic of Italy give to BiH in the fight against corruption and organized crime. He said that the issue of combating corruption should be addressed proportionally with other issues, that is, it should be kept under control as much as possible.
The collocutors exchanged views on the existing Law on Conflict of Interest in the BiH Institutions and concluded that it was necessary to make changes to the existing legal solution as, as they stated, in the current legal regulation there is a noticeable influence of the politics, which has caused great damage primarily to the society as a whole. In connection with this, as they stressed today, it is important to strive to reach agreement on resolving this issue and to return to at least the solutions that existed before the valid amendments to the Law. In this connection, Mr. Conte was informed that the amendments to this Law are currently underway in the BiH Council of Ministers and that the members of the BiH PA House of Representatives hope that they will be in the parliamentary procedure by October.
Mr. Conte noted that the parliaments are a link with the relevant agencies in the fight against corruption and organized crime. Therefore, Mr. Conte said, it is necessary to amend the Law on Conflict of Interest in BiH Institutions as soon as possible, which would contribute to the strengthening of anti-corruption elements, BiH PA stated.
