SARAJEVO, June 10 (FENA) - A central event and opening of the House of Liberators, which represents the entrance for the future memorial complex on Friday evening, on the occasion of the Day of Defense of the Municipality of Novi Grad and the 26th anniversary of the victory of the RBiH Army in the Battle of Žuć Hill.
The memorial complex will be built at the plateau in Golo Brdo, a site where fierce fighting for the defense of the City of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina was fought during the aggression on our country.
The opening of the House of Liberators was attended by representatives of all levels of government, veterans' associations, as well as numerous citizens, and the Minister of Veterans' Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, Muharem Fišo.
On 8 June 1992, the defenders of Sarajevo, in a fierce clash with the aggressor forces on Žuč Hill, liberated the Orlić peak and the wider area towards Volujak and Krstac, and settlements of Smiljevići and Zabrđe.
The Battle of Žuč Hill was one of the crucial battles for the defense of Sarajevo and BiH in the past war.
On that day the RBiH Army stopped the aggressor's attempt to physically divide the city into two parts. The units of the Territorial Defense of BiH from the three Sarajevo municipalities were engaged in the battle - Novi Grad, Novo Sarajevo, and Vogošća.
