Harbaš: Bring renewable energy sources closer to citizens (VIDEO)

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, June 20 (FENA) – Renewable energy sources need to be brought closer to citizens and local communities because those are the ultimate beneficiaries that need to implement measures from this sector, said Coordinator for Renewable Energy Sources Nihad Harbaš.

Harbaš told FENA before session on renewable energy sources within "Energa" fair in Sarajevo that ultimate beneficiaries must have the possibility to invest in projects like these.

"First solar power plant owned by citizens has been placed in Croatia and 500 citizens financed this project because they recognized certain benefits, free electricity in some period," said Harbaš.

He reminded that by signing Agreement on establishment of Energy Community, BiH has the obligation to deal with this sector and fulfill certain commitments.

"That is 40 percent in gross final consumption from renewable energy sources. According to some results, BiH has managed to do that since 2014, according to some it has not," emphasized Harbaš.

Goal has not been achieved, said Harbaš, looking from the aspect of share of solid biomass in total energy production.

"Solid biomass, firstly firewood, is very available in our area and it is not used efficiently," said Harbaš.

Third and final session of the second day of ''Energa'' fair is dedicated to energy efficiency in BiH, lessons learnt and upcoming commitments.
