SARAJEVO, June 21 (FENA) - The ongoing revolutionary changes in the automotive industry and the ever-increasing offer of electric cars on the market demand concrete steps of the competent BiH institution in order for our country to catch up with the so-called "green revolution" in the context of environmental conservation and environmental protection priorities, and primarily the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

There are various and numerous advantages of using electric vehicles in comparison to conventional ones and this was the main topic of the today's session and panel entitled "The future is at our doorstep - The current situation and prospects for electric vehicles market in BiH", held as part of the International ‘Energa 2018’ Fair in Sarajevo.

The participants pointed out that there are serious and urgent obligations before the BiH institutions when it comes to securing subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles and the creation of infrastructure framework - construction of public charging stations for electric cars; currently we have only a dozen in BiH, with only 18 purchased electric vehicles so far, marking only a symbolic beginning in this segment.

In this respect, the competent state ministry has been engaged in the drafting of certain legal and other acts to promote environmentally friendly vehicles, including new regulations on technical inspections, the registration and a set of regulations concerning restrictions on imports of vehicles that do not meet the required standards.

As it has been mentioned before, there are numerous advantages in electric vehicles, first and foremost, low fuel / energy consumption (1 or 2 KM worth of electricity will allow you to travel up to 100 kilometers), lower maintenance costs, numerous environmental benefits, since, according to some estimates, 35 to 40 percent of air pollution comes from an internal combustion engines.

The panelists analyzed ways in which European countries stimulate the purchase of electric vehicles, through the example of Norway that has gone the furthest in this respect, so that the buyers of electric cars in that country, among other things, are exempt from paying VAT, customs and registration, as well as tolls for the use of motorways, ferries, etc.

They estimate that a relatively high price of electric vehicles today will soon be considerably lower, which will also remove this barrier conditioned by the standard of the population, and, as expected, it will be accompanied by better technical performances of these vehicles, together with construction of the appropriate infrastructure (charging stations), which could lead to significant changes in the attitude with potential customers.

According to some indicators, the number of electric cars on the roads in the world has crossed the record three million in 2017, which is an increase of 54 percent compared to the previous year.

Thus, the International Energy Agency (IAE) Global Report on Electric Cars says that more than a million electric cars have been sold in 2017.
