SARAJEVO, June 29 (FENA) - Commissioner for Transport of the European Commission Violeta Bulc stated in Sarajevo today after meeting with Minister of Communications and Transport of BiH Ismir Jusko she is optimistic when it comes to future of BiH in this area.

"You are one of the most important transport knots in the region and try and use that position. It inevitably results in economic growth, connectivity with the region and ultimately it is transport that connects people," said Commissioner Bulc.

She said her visit to our country today is one of the most appropriate ways to mark extremely successful two years of joint work. She said that over those two years they managed to achieve significant results thanks to cooperation with all political actors.

"Projects that were considered almost impossible are now being implemented thanks to energy, political wisdom and ability of people to see a much wider picture, beyond political or ethnic interests and put BiH interests as one priority in their activities," emphasized Commissioner Bulc.

She thanked Minister Jusko for his commitment in implementing projects in BiH that will secure wider connectivity.

She said they focused on  two basic results over the past two years – first was adoption of the Transport Strategy, and second was signing an extremely important regional document which made BiH part of the Transport Community.

According to her, they have more than 600 million euros of investments at the moment for needs in BiH.

She called all domestic actors to "use that same political power they had when two important frameworks were adopted – Strategy and Agreement on accession to the Transport Community, in implementation of the projects".

Commissioner Bulc noted that during her meeting with Minister Jusko they focused on two most important corridors in BiH, which enable this country to be part of a wider transport network. First is Corridor 5-C, and second is Adriatic-Ionian road.

She also asked Minister Jusko and his associates to consider possibility of using a rail transport, not only for cargo but for transportation of passengers as well. She noted that more than 70 percent of their investments go to the railway.

Minister of Communications and Transport of BiH Ismir Jusko said that "name of Commissioner Bulc should be written in gold when it comes to road infrastructure".

He especially emphasized her understanding during adoption of the framework transport strategy and added that thanks to that we have two billion and 300 million KM at our disposal for Corridor C.

He added they also spoke about Una-Sana road, its strategic development and their plans for the upcoming period.

He announced that a team from the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH will go to Brussels to agree on the next activities the ministry will implement with the European Commission in the upcoming period.
