Digging of graves for 35 genocide victims to begin in Potočari tomorrow

SREBRENICA, July 4 (FENA) - Digging of graves for burial of posthumous remains of 35 newly identified victims of genocide in Srebrenica, that will be buried at the collective burial on July 11, will begin at the Potočari Memorial Center tomorrow.

Director of the Potočari Memorial Center Mersed Smajlović told FENA that workers of the Commemorative Center Tuzla will dig the graves. The youngest victim that will be buried this year is Vesid (Hasan) Ibrić, born in 1979. He was 16 years old when he was killed and the oldest victim is Šahin (Šaban) Halilović born in 1924, who was 71 at the time. So far 6.575 genocide victims have been buried at the Potočari Memorial Center, said Smajlović.

All preparations for marking of the 23rd anniversary of genocide against Bosniaks of the UN Safe Zone Srebrenica are going according to plan, Nermin Alivuković, president of the Organizing Committee for marking 23rd anniversary of genocide in Srebrenica told FENA.

"Organizing Committee will meet tomorrow to adopt the final program for marking of the 23rd anniversary of genocide. As in the previous years we expect around 20 to 30 thousand people this year, who will come to honor the victims of genocide committed in July 1995," Alivuković told FENA.
